For $175, we’ll send a New Zealand made, handmade hunting knife in 1084 carbon steel with a natural timber handle, each one unique. Lifetime warranty. Engraving +$25. Kydex sheath +$65. NZ shipping $9.50.
Features (every knife, its own story)
Reclaimed timber handle
Rescued rimu, jarrah, kwila, old floorboards and decking offcuts chosen for stability and character, then hand-shaped to feel right in the hand. The timber has already lived another life; now it becomes part of your trips and tales.
1084 carbon steel blade
Honest steel that takes a keen edge and is easy to touch up in the field. With use it develops a dark patina, a living finish that records huts, camps, and miles walked. It’s made to be used, not tucked away.
Styles you might receive
Traditional hunting knife shapes based on testing and feedback over the years or experimental one-offs Bruce is exploring. Sizes vary from compact belt carry to mid-size camp utility. That’s the magic - no two are the same.
Laser engraving (+$25)
Initials or a short name for a gift that feels personal from day one. Simple, tidy engraving; ~10 characters works best.
Custom Kydex sheath (+$65)
Moulded to your exact knife for a secure snap-fit. Great for safe carry in a pack, glovebox, or on a belt. Durable, easy to rinse and dry.
Why this makes a brilliant gift
For the bloke who “has everything,” this lands well: a truly unique tool with a proper story. Each piece is made by Bruce in Ness Valley, Clevedon, with the kind of character you won’t find on a shelf.
What you’re getting
A practical hunting/camping knife from Bruce’s one-off builds: confident balance, a sharp edge, and a handle with genuine warmth. Because this is a mystery selection, we choose the profile that feels right from the current batch.
Care (carbon steel)
Wipe clean and dry straight away; add a light film of oil now and then (especially after wet or salty use). A few gentle passes on a honing steel keeps it singing. Don’t soak and never dishwasher. A little care becomes a good post-trip ritual.
