Mystery Handmade Kitchen Knife
One-of-a-kind, made by Bruce in Clevedon. You choose Chef/Kitchen; we choose the exact profile.
For $175, we’ll send a New Zealand–made, handmade kitchen knife in 1084 carbon steel with a reclaimed timber handle - each one unique. Lifetime warranty. Engraving +$25. Kydex sheath +$65. NZ shipping $9.50.
Features (every knife, its own story)
Reclaimed timber handle
Rescued rimu, jarrah, kwila, old floorboards and decking offcuts - chosen for stability and character, then hand-shaped to feel right in the hand. The timber you see has already lived another life; now it becomes part of yours.
Carbon steel blade (1084)
High quality knife making steel sourced from Germany, that takes a keen edge and is easy to keep sharp. With use it develops a dark patina - a living finish that records meals cooked and experiences shared. This provides a protective layer that just gets better over time. It’s meant to be used, not tucked away.
Styles you might receive
Japanese-inspired (petty/paring, santoku), European-leaning utility/chef, or experimental one-offs Bruce is exploring. Sizes vary from compact prep to mid-size utility. That’s the magic - no two are the same.
Laser engraving (+$25)
Add initials or a short name for a gift that feels personal from day one. Simple, tidy engraving; ~10 characters works best.
Custom Kydex sheath (+$65)
Moulded to your exact knife for a secure snap fit. Handy for safe drawer storage, travel, or if this gift is destined for bach or bush.
Why this makes a brilliant gift
For the bloke who “has everything,” this lands well: a real tool with a proper story. Each piece is made by Bruce in Ness Valley, Clevedon, and arrives with the kind of character you can’t buy off a shelf.
What you’re getting
A practical kitchen knife from Bruce’s one-off builds: lively, thin edge; balanced in the hand; handle with genuine warmth. Because this is a mystery selection, we’ll choose the profile that feels right from the current batch.
Care (carbon steel)
Wipe with a damp cloth, dry straight away, and give it a light film of food-safe oil now and then. A few gentle passes on a honing steel keeps it singing. Don’t soak and never dishwasher. A little care becomes a nice ritual.
Shipping
NZ-wide $9.50 per item. Dispatched from Clevedon with tracking via email.
